The roles of the body within digitally mediated sex work

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter › peer-review

Abstract

This chapter demonstrates the centrality of the body to digitally mediated sex work. It highlights three commonplace and overlapping body types that operate within digitally mediated sex work: (1) the digitally mediated body, (2) the socialised and regulated body, and (3) the sensory body. In doing so, the chapter draws on academic literatures on sex work, the senses and the sociology of the body. It uses different sex work practices including pornography and webcamming as examples, and it regularly discusses a practice that is on the boundary of sex work: the posting of ‘feet pics’ online for money.
