Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Abstract

In the grand tradition of Christmas ghost stories, and Victorian lantern shows- draw nearer to hear tales of Victorian Newcastle. A city in the crucible of the industrial revolution, a city expanding year upon year with fetid dark, un-made streets where pedestrians die following pavement trips and where the leafy garden villages of Elswick and Benwell are being taken over by the armament factories, ironworks, mines, glass works and railways of the brave new future. This paper is the beginning of what may be a PhD.
