Abstract

This is an original dry-point etch of bamboo scaffolding in Shanghai, China. Made from a recycled plastic ‘plate’ and etching inks, the layers of structure, pattern, light and shadow are elevated as a piece of urban fabric. Inspired by a moment in the city, the ordinary is transformed by the etching process into something more monumental.

Lesley McIntyre is an Associate Professor at Northumbria University, Newcastle. In exploring architecture and landscape, her creative practice adopts a range of techniques and processes such as drawing, photography, print-making and writing.
