Abstract

In 1942 William Beveridge famously proposed a national health service, comprehensive social insurance and non-means-tested family allowances as the way to eradicate the five ‘giant evils’ of squalor, want, ignorance, idleness and disease. Academics from Northumbria University warn today’s politicians that they need to match his transformative ambitions
