Abstract
Differences in degree outcomes can often be found according to student characteristics. Despite similar tariff scores for instance, BTEC students achieve fewer first-class and upper-second class honours degrees than traditional entry students. They are also more likely than A level students to drop out of university (HEPI, 2017). Interventions to support smoother transition of students from all backgrounds into university requires knowing exactly what it is that works; how to replicate, sustain and scale up the activity. DRIVER, a Coventry University-led project financed by the HEFCE catalyst fund, seeks to find ways to scale up activities to ease student transition to university. This presentation introduces the protocol used for the clear specification of interventions whose premise is that they are effective and scalable. Clear specification is an aid to evaluating what features are effective and also for implementation of interventions in other settings with the expectation that they will be similarly successful
