Abstract

How can arts spaces feel more inclusive for young people? How can design spark creativity, experimentation, and reflection? How can Baltic connect education, sustainability, and civic responsibility?

Led by Baltic and Northumbria University, through the BxNU Institute, apprentices from Northumbria’s School of Architecture and Built Environment have reimagined Baltic’s communal spaces. Designing with and for young people, they propose Level 2 and the public realm as an adaptive, sustainable platform where communities can connect, create, and explore. Blurring boundaries between artist and audience, process and outcome, and digital and physical, the project celebrates creativity as a shared act rooted in place, identity, and responsibility.

On display are visual manifestos, spatial strategies, and public realm ideas. There is no single “right” answer - we invite you to add your voice to imagining what Baltic could become by exploring, responding, and voting for your favourite vision.
