My background is mixed in technical education and applied business interests. My first degrees are in electrical and electronic. As such I have experience as a research engineer, covering the areas of electronic prototyping, interfacing and instrumentation, printed circuit board (PCB) design and optoelectronic control. My master is in engineering management, where I learnt the principles of scientific management, becoming interested in such discipline. After completing my PhD studies, I was appointed KTP associate in electronics, instrumentation and control. This project developed a prototype for a commercial point-of-care healthcare diagnostic system based in surface acoustic waves (SAW) devices making use of industrial design techniques.
My research interests are in interfacing electronics, instrumentation and control. More recent interests include, surface acoustic waves, microfabrication, thin films and biomedical engineering. Future plans are to move into nanomedicine applications. In addition, I am interested in start-ups/spin-outs, knowledge exchange, lean start-up methodology, business canvas modelling and lean innovation. I find these techniques very interesting and I read around those subjects in my own time.
