Bianca Fadel is a PhD researcher in the Centre for International Development at Northumbria University. Her current research focuses on the experiences of local volunteers in rural and urban settings during protracted crises, particularly looking at the case of Burundi, in East-Central Africa. She holds a M.A in Humanitarian Action and has previously worked for the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) as advisor for humanitarian diplomacy at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Bianca’s experience also comprises the implementation of local youth and community engagement volunteering projects at the Brazilian Red Cross.
