Professor
Research interests
My research interest is in digitalisation of construction and engineering projects and the digital transformation of the built environment. I have substantial expertise in researching these themes across four intertwined perspectives namely; technology, process, people and policy. Owing to my educational background and experience in both engineering and project management, I am fortunate to be able to treat these themes at technical, managerial and strategic levels. I research new digital construction technologies and processes for addressing key challenges facing construction and engineering projects; new conceptual models and tools to help in understanding the impact of digital innovation (Building Information Modelling, Virtual/Augmented/Immersive Reality, Internet of Things, and Distributed Ledgers Technologies) and accelerating its adoption in projects, organisations and markets; and new approaches to the development of policies for digital transformation of built environment including studies of maturity assessment and benchmark.
My key areas include:
- Digitalisation of Construction and Engineering projects
- BIM and IoT in Construction and Facilities Management
- BIM for Facilities Management
- Digital innovation (BIM, IoT, DLT & blockchain, VR, and AR) within construction projects and the built environment
- BIM-enabled digital transformation policies
- Performance management
- Engineering and Construction Project management
Research Student Supervision Interests
My research interest is in Digital Construction; Building Information Modelling (BIM) policy, process and technologies; big data applications in built environment; virtual reality applications in construction processes; and construction and engineering project management. I authored more than 60 papers covering these themes in international journals and conferences. I welcome applications from PhD students with interesting ideas and proposals.Organisational affiliations
